Currently in D.C. — October 9, 2023: Sunny by morning, cloudy in the afternoon

Plus, on Indigenous Peoples Day, #landback for climate justice

The weather, currently.

Sunny and cloudy

It’s cloudy, it’s sunny, it’s cloudy, it’s sunny. The weather seems to have been playing with us this past weekend, and continues to do so today. We have a clear and cool morning ranging in the 40s and 50s, and by 1 pm the clouds return. Still, temperatures won’t rise much more. The highest will be 65°F. So, day by day the fall is progressing. The good news is that we won’t see any rain today, although I can’t seem to get Marcelene Cox out of my head when he said: “One way to help the weather make up its mind is to hang out washing.”

What you need to know, currently.

One of the best climate strategies is returning stolen land to Indigenous people — this is what climate justice looks like.

This year, in advance of Indigenous Peoples Day, the NDN Collective has launched a Just Transition fund to help build technical capacity for frontline groups to continue the #landback fight.

Indigenous people already protect the vast majority of the world’s biodiversity, with technologies such as prescribed fire and responsible resource harvesting. It’s time for the rest of society to follow their lead.
